Landscape Photography – My Kingdom for Some Rain

I traveled to Austin, Texas last Friday to capture some stunning shots of the upper and lower falls at the McKinney Falls State Park. I called the park well in advance to ask just how much water flow they were getting over the falls and was told “Oh, it’s flowing pretty well this week”.

Hmmmm… I suppose next time I’ll need to be a little bit more specific with my questions.

    • Jill,

Thanks for reading. I do hope we get some rain before my October workshop. Pretty tough to photograph water falls with no water. Onion Creek used to be a great place to swim also. Maybe this fall?

    • Michael,

You may be right. Next trip I’m heading farther north and west to Longhorn Cavern ad Colorado Bend State Park. I hope Gorman Falls has more water running through it.

    • Hey Mark,

I’m just praying that Laurie and her storm chasers send a little rain down from North Texas to the Hill Country.

  1. LOL – I think maybe you just missed it by a few days, being that we received rain this past weekend, but it’s still not enough…then again, I don’t want to see too much rain all at once! Still a great photo – quiet, green, serene Texas

    • Thanks Corina!

I really had my heart set on a 2 – 3 second exposure using my Singh-Ray Vari-ND filter to create a great shot of the water flowing over these falls. I had everything needed except the water. 🙂

    • Thanks Ray!

I’ll post more images later this week. I did get some nice shots, just not the one I was hoping for.
