Travel Photography – Sideways

What can I say? I’m one of those folks that just can’t walk by something with this much texture without taking a few shots. Drives my wife and kids crazy. We’ll be walking through some small Texas town looking for antiques, food or both and I’ll duck around the corner into a back alley and start shooting doors, windows, people, whatever. Ten minutes later one of the girls (I have four and a wife) will come looking for me and saying “Daaaaad”. Caught again.

So here’s another shot taken last weekend. Somewhat different from my usual landscape and wildlife shots. Just having fun playing with a new lens and looking for something to catch my eye. No intent. Just a feeling.

  1. I get the same thing from my wife and two small daughters when we walk around Louisiana towns. I’m looking for interesting things to shoot and I’m just slowing them down from shopping !

  2. Details = good photo. Like this a lot. Post reminded me of what it was like on a weekend with family, glad they are grown, sure miss that stuff though.

  3. Thats a great lens. I have it, and probably should use it more than I do. I have a tendency to get lazy and put on a zoom lens when just walking around, but then you really loose the option of shooting a very shallow D.O.F. and in low light.

Great shot btw. I love “textures”…………

  4. Nice!!! Man after my own shooting heart.

I have one wife, one daughter and two female dogs. I know females like us photographers, but man, we’re all being over-run! 🙂

  5. That lens is nice and sharp, the texture is beautiful. Any chance your wife and my wife and all the kids could hang out together and we could just disappear for a bit??? Wonder how my son would feel being around 5 girls?
