I know we all tend to gripe when the features of a new camera don’t quite live up to our expectations. In the case of the EOS 50D however, I think Canon has really thought through the details.
One of my long-time pet peeves is how easily the LCD on a DSLR camera gets stained, smudged and scratched in only a few weeks of use. In the new 50D and 5D Mark II cameras, Canon has used an LCD with a six-layer coating including a dirt/smudge resistant fluorine outer coating similar to the coating on the 50D and 5D Mark II’s low pass filter (sensor). I’ve compared the LCD on my 40D and 50D and the new coatings really do help reduce smudges a lot.
