Travel Photography – Hoping to Get Lucky

Three of my all-time favorite travel photographers are David duChemin, Matt Brandon and Gavin Gough. Their art, style and imagination continue to inspire me daily but what sets these three apart is their passion for photography and their compassion for the people they meet upon their journey.

Its this compassion and integrity that really inspires me and though my current condition prevents me from traveling far, today I took the plunge and set out to capture some of the flavor of the small Texas towns that I love so much. This gentleman in Sealy, Texas was kind enough to let me take a few shots as he played the daily lottery, hoping to get lucky.

  1. Loving this Travel Photography set, Jeff. I consider anything I’m out and about in the Great State of New Jersey as travel photography for me. I can always find something too!

  2. Jeff, you make me blush. You have nailed the very thing that drew the three of us together and what drives much of the vision behind out work. I am glad it can be seen from afar. By the way really nice shot. Nice placement of the subject and using the lines of the bench to draw the viewer to the man.

Do you know that home away form home for me is Temple, Texas?

    • Matt,

Thanks again for reading and for your comments. Yes, I knew you hailed from Temple. I have some friends that live nearby and they saw some of your work at a local gallery back in 2007. Yes, the world is both incredibly large and sometimes very small.

  3. Thanks for the kind words, Jeff! Hard to believe you’d think the three of us nutters have anything resembling style, but thanks all the same (have you seen the beret that Matt Brandon wears? And I’ve been known to wear a kilt fer crying out loud!)

    Thanks for the encouragement!
