Bird Photography – Great White Heron in Flight

I was pretty lucky to catch this Great White Heron in flight. I was trying to capture some images of a Moorhen swimming nearby and this Great White flew right past me. My Canon 40D autofocus was set to “One Shot” rather than “AI Servo” but it still kept the bird in focus for four or five exposures. The late afternoon sun was reflecting off the trees at the edge of the lake, making the water look like gold. Sweet!

  1. This is a Great Egret. note: the black legs.

A great White Heron which is the white morph of the Great Blue Heron has yellow legs.

    • Jim,

Thanks for reading and for correcting me on this. I’m no expert on avian species and I’m quite sure I’ve misidentified many different birds during my career.

      Jeff
