Bird Photography – Little Blue Heron

We’re very fortunate in southeast Texas to be home to an incredible variety of birds, all of which make great photographic subjects. The Brazos Bend State Park is about 20 miles southwest of Sugar Land, TX and is home to over 300 species of birds itself. The park goes out of its way to accomodate bird watchers and photographers and has several observation platforms and a tower that are great spots to shoot from.

I shot this Little Blue Heron last Friday afternoon on my way out to one of the observation platforms. Little Blue Herons are kind of unusual because the first-year birds are pure white and look like a Snow Egret, while the adult birds are blue as shown in these two images.
